VoIP and office phone systems
Set up forwarding through your phone system and check call paths and caller ID.
If your business uses VoIP or an office phone system, forwarding is set in that system. Choosing an option in Hello records your preference but doesn't change your phone system.
Arrange forwarding
- Find your Hello number, your Hello number, under Settings, then Phone.
- Choose Forward missed calls (recommended) or Forward all calls.
- Ask your phone provider or IT person to set up the matching route to your Hello number.
- Tell them whether desk phones should ring first or calls should go straight to Hello.
- Ask them to cover busy calls as well as unanswered calls.
Check call paths and caller ID
Ask how many calls can forward at the same time. Business plans often have a limited number of "call paths". Some systems use two paths for each forwarded call, one in and one out.
Ask them to "pass through the original caller ID" so Hello gets the caller's number, not yours.
Test the whole route
- Call your published business number from another phone.
- Check that Hello answers at the right point.
- Have two people call at once.
- Check any menu or after-hours route still goes where you expect.
Don't set Hello to transfer callers back to the number that forwards to Hello. Use separate mobiles or direct lines for your team.
